Well first of all I need to say ... what a summer & spring. Following are highlights of the spring & summer seasons.
Washington State Tournament came & went. Scores were pretty high by previous standards. The pro shop was pretty busy so there wasnt a lot of time to do much of anything. Overall it was a sucess for all centers involved.
A new proshop opened at Atomic Bowl, it well be manned by Joe Reyburn. Good luck to you Joe.
Went to the regional in Boise and bowled ok but I didn't make the cut. The trip & the company was good. Randy Macomber & Evan Nash and one of our youth bowlers (Joe) all had a great dinner at the "Crabshack".
Summer League started with PBA Experience Baker Doubles.. it was something different and still needs a few kinks worked out, but I think we all had a good time and learned what it takes to depend on your team-mate.
I bowled the Summer Swiss with Mike & Ashley Finnestad. I really enjoyed bowling with them.. even though were like the doormats for the 1st half. I think everyone was up bowling against us. Crazy me.. I shoot 3 bills on the 1st night. So woo hoo.. my 11th, and start the league averaging 235.. I took care of that in a hurry. We made a valiant run the last 4 weeks.. even while I was gone for Nationals - another story, but ultimately fell short bowling against 1st place team and having to sweep to win the half.... and it seemed like they carried everything and we got hosed... upcoming fun night for the prize money!!
Went to the regional in Mollala on the shark pattern. A quite little center the is operated & owned by Shawn Copeland. Randy Macomber and I traveled to Mollala Oregon... my performance was worst outing in 5 years. I had no feel... no leverage and balls were reading the lane to late. I have to fix this... SOON. Randy bowled well.. -12 from the cut with the destiny in his own hands .. 1st strike in the 10th and he is in.... goes high pocket & leaves a 4. The discussion dwelled on the # 12 for some time, and I can truly relate missing the cut by a small margin.
LAS VEGAS BABY!! The trip was super. Spare Time Pro Shop consisted of Dave Gussenhoven, Carrie Dronen, Dave Gifford, Randy Macomber, & myself. 1st time for 2 of us... woo hoo! Can you imagine.. the singles score was 862!!! The team had fun and our score wasnt great... but FUN. Doubles & singles the next day knowing that you need to be near perfection for 36 frames... I wasted no time in making sure that I would be no where close to 862. LoL I just didnt create the right carry angle. Made a few errant shots that I paid the price for.... I was upset that I lost my butt in brackets for the 1st time.
Grand Canyon & Hoover Dam.... lost my butt in brackets ... the casinos were getting more than they needed for me.. so off to Hoover Dam & Grand Canyon. Mary .. my wife, Randy & Shawna made the 4 hour trip.. a short stop at Hoover Dam to be amazed at this engineering marvel..we made Kingman & stopped for lunch and got a peek at Joe Perrys tour bus..
I was welcomed back to Grand Canyon by a torrent mountain rain storm and then beautiful clearing revealing a big hole in the ground. The views were gorgeous. I was a little setback by the charge at the entrance... but hey doesnt everything go up... I hadnt been to the canyon in 20 years... Mary, Randy & Shawn... never. I am glad they made the trip.
Ron Hoppe Youth clinic.... Ok you can call this my love & determination to bring more knowledge to the area youth bowlers, opportunities for our youth bowlers who want improve & make themselves better. I have the famous Ron Hoppe from Marysville WA ( a gold level coach, works with several of the 64 exempt players in the PBA). A chance for on the lane analysis by a world class coach... right in your own back yard. Why would'nt you take that opportunity? Well I had 6 that stepped up and I think got a good look what they needed to do to be better. A fit analysis was performed, video analysis and explanation for the needed change... and as always I learned more myself. What a wonderful resource.
1 Week until the adult session where I will get some of my own work done now as well.... one thing I did discover and I am planning to look at tournaments differently... whether its a PBA regional, a CWO or anything else is not setting myself up to fail... this I learned from Ron.
Well, Alan finally showed up to bowl the PBA Experience league. The new season started back in January... but I haven't showed up... well I was there ... but my scores were awful.... averaging less than 190. But we bowled on the shark this past week. I got in a little groove early. Using my Storm Virtual Gravity with a fresh cover (1000 abralon & a little reacta-clean and the bowl was good to go). Start with 235; clean game, 2nd game - 213 with a open, the 183 - lanes started to break down just a bit and I didn't make all the right moves... but I am happy with the set. It will raise my average to a level closer to what I expect to be averaging. 3 weeks left in our league... then a break.. before starting PBA X Baker Doubles League.... should be a lot of fun.
